RESTAURANTS
Finding a poor restaurant in Sicily (in terms of food) is almost a miracle.
Starting from the spot – there are several beach bars and restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, so with no car or bike, you can still eat well during your whole stay. The prices aren’t excessive.
There are also quite a few nice restaurants within bike distance or short car ride.
And the cities – Marsala 14 km from the spot, and Trapani 23 km away – both are full of restaurants, of course.
The restaurant part is so important, that it has its own page. All the places that we have checked and approved as good enough for our guests, we gathered here:
Keep in mind that restaurants usually open at 7 pm.
GROCERIES
In the village of Birgi (near the spot) there is a basic shop – Lo Stagnone Minimarket. It’s not spectacularly stocked, but you can buy food, drink, sanitary products and chemicals. You don’t need a car for this one.
LOCATION
There is a small Carrefour store in San Leonardo (4 km from the spot by car, approx 2km by bike). It is better equipped, there is a stand with ham and cheese. The shop is connected to the Tumminello butcher (good supplies for BBQ). There is also a nice greengrocer in front of the store (of lovely donna Maria).
It’s not walking distance from the spot but still doable by bike.
10 km from the spot, so only a car distance, there is a SISA supermarket. There is a great selection of cheese and ham, there is a butcher (although we prefer to buy BBQ at Tumminellos ourselves), but also fish and seafood.

ALCOHOL
Alcohol is only in stores. It is impossible to stock up, for example, at a gas station, there are no night shops.
So you have to think about the issue during the day, minding the siesta hours. Or drink in bars.
3.5 km from the spot there is the Birgi winery, where wine may not be a luxury product, but it’s quite decent and more importantly – bought in big canisters is cheaper than water (but better drink it fresh and cold). It’s a true experience – Cantina Birgi is a cantina sociale, so all the local farmers bring their grapes here, and the wine produced here is the widest local wine supply. You get your canister filled up with a pistol, just like in a gas station.
A bit higher quality wine we find in such wineries as Cantina Fina, Cantina Donna Franca, or Cantina Pellegrino, where you can also have a wine tasting (must be booked before).
CIGARETTES
Cigarettes can only be bought at Tabacchi. The closest tobacco shop is 4 km from the spot (in San Leonardo, next to Carrefour). Mind siesta hours.

ATM
There are two ATMs in San Leonardo (just before Carrefour), so 3 km from the spot.
First one is in the front wall of the post office HERE.
Second one is just after, 500 meters further on the same side of the street, on the corner wall of Credem Bank HERE.
There is also one ATM at the airport, that is 6km from the spot, so HERE.
SIESTA
As we are in Italy, people rest in the middle of the day.
Time off lasts roughly from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and pretty much everything is closed then (except our spot of course).
